Our Biotech Future

Our Biotech Future – The New York Review of Books
Freeman Dyson

I fear that Freeman Dyson has finally skipped past eccentricity and into dementia. His prose in the NYRB rambles for a good 1000+ words without actually saying anything other than ‘biotech opens up many possibilities’.

Thanks for the heads-up, Freeman.

The Root of all Evil

Flying Spaghetti Monster

I’ve been watching Richard Dawkins “The Root of All Evil,” which is his television adaptation of his book “The God Delusion”. Dawkins runs through most of the major points of his book and finds more hits than misses in this TV converstion. Despite this, he was completely overwhelmed by the conviction and eloquence of both Pastor Ted Haggard and Yusef Kattab and came across looking like a scared angry little twerp. It is oh-so-obvious that Dawkins best thinking comes at time of introspection, rather than by interaction with others. His interview scenes exhibit his thinest, almost childish arguments for the non-existance of god. There are certainly thousands of lines in the book that simply shred the logic of the interviewees, but he fails to conjure them and simply ends up looking flustered. Better stick to words Richard.

Not essential viewing for those questioning faith, but not a bad way to blow a couple of hours on a Sunday evening.
